A Greater and Happier Mapo through Communication and Innovation.
Mapo-gu was established on October 30,
1944 as an organization responsible for administrative
work and civil services and covering the areas separated
from Seodaemun-gu and Yongsan-gu, in accordance with
the Japanese Government-General of Korea Ordinance No. 350.
Under the leadership of the Mayor of Mapo-gu, Deputy Mayor of Mapo-gu, and the Public Relations Officer, the total of five bureaus have been organized as follows: the Safety Administration Bureau (General Management Division, Local Autonomy Administration Division, Cultural Promotion Division, Tourism Division, Civil Passport Division, Computer Information Division, Clean Administration Division), the Planning Economics Bureau (Planning Budget Division, Employment Promotion Division, Finance Division, Tax Collection Division, Tax 1 Division, Tax 2 Division), the Welfare Education Bureau (Welfare Administration Division, Livelihood Security Division, Senior & Disabled Welfare Division, Family Welfare Division, Education Youth Division, Daily Sports Division, and Taskforce for Mapo Central Library & Youth Education Center), the Urban Environment Bureau (Housing Division, Urban Planning Division, Urban Scenery Division, Architecture Division, Environment Division, Park & Afforestation Division), and the Transportation Construction Bureau (Transportation Administration Division, Transportation Guidance Division, Construction Management Division, Civil Construction Division, Water Management Division, Real Estate Division).
In addition, the Audit Officer inspects the performance of the employees and provides them with guidance.
The Mapo-gu Office performs the following roles: guidance on and management of the administration of each dong (neighborhood), coordination of administrative districts, collection and registration of various taxes, establishment of measures for local price stabilization, management of public employment projects, selection of waste disposal companies, recycling project planning, management of social welfare facilities, identification of low-income residents and management of support programs, improvement of environmental pollution prevention facilities, imposition of emission fees, inspection of public facilities, construction and repair of roads, building permission and completion registration, implementation of residential environment improvement projects and city planning, land readjustment, various civil services and the issuance of civil documents.
